The hybrid car is a technology that has been in the way that cars were introduced in the 19th century, as most vehicles use a combination of energy sources for power. All cars, for example, have a battery that starts the car and can supply car accessories, including headlights. In late 1990, a hybrid car with more power began to be considered a viable and popular alternative to conventional gasoline-only vehicles, and several models on the market exploded and became popular sellers.
The hybrid car is an excellent alternative to conventional, first, because gas is more efficient. Many have a gas efficiency twice that of conventional gasoline-only models, which provides significant savings when gasoline is expensive. In addition, hybrid vehicles tend to be less polluting because they consume less fuel and because the companies within them are more aware of environmental pollution and make an effort to build cleaner vehicles. Many states recognize this and give the owners of hybrid cars special incentives such as tax exemptions and permission to use the carpool lane.
Some companies have gone further with the technology of hybrid cars by building cars that can be plugged in at night to charge batteries that can power the vehicle up to 150 miles (241 km) before having to switch engine gas. For shorter trips, this is perfectly adequate, and is a great way to mix electrically powered cars cleaner with the cousins of their high gas consumption of over-reaching. Many companies are beginning to build hybrid vehicles that use alternative energy sources such as hydrogen, hybrid vehicles, hoping to encourage consumers to switch to more sustainable energy sources. Of course, conscious energy consumers could always bike or take a bus, but buying a hybrid car is a great place to start.
